Green Energy Committee

FUN FACTS – OUR PARTNERS

The Green Energy committee is working closely with many organizations to find ways to reduce our energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions

Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC): We are working with CMHC to apply for their Canadian Greener Affordable Housing (CGAH) fund. This fund is part of the federal government’s efforts to work toward net-zero emissions. It is specifically for low- and moderate-income, multi-unit buildings

The Atmospheric Fund (TAF): TAF is a federally funded organization that works to reduce carbon emissions in the Greater Toronto Area. They have assisted in over 400 retrofit projects involving heat pumps in the GTA. They have experience with energy reduction funds at all levels of government, as well as employees with engineering backgrounds

The City of Toronto: The city’s Better Building Partnership department has supported our application process. Their letter of support in our initial application was integral to our success in getting funds for necessary studies. They are also monitoring potential sources of funding for us. We are also working with SolarTO on a potential solar panel component to our energy retrofit.

Toronto Hydro/Save On Energy: We have been working with Climate Action staff at Toronto Hydro to determine the best solutions for us and identify grants we could qualify for.

CMS Engineering: CMS is overseeing and coordinating the various companies that are conducting studies for us. Their extensive knowledge of our infrastructure has been very helpful in putting together our application.

Green Energy Committee – committee aims

FUN FACTS – COMMITTEE AIMS

  • The Green Energy committee is working towards reducing our energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • We are seeking to reduce energy costs for all members of the co-op.
  • Although we have many different types of units with different infrastructure, we plan to benefit all members of the co-op equally.
  • We aim to increase comfort for members by providing more efficient heating as well as central cooling in all units.
  • We are looking for funding that will allow us to retrofit our energy systems at the lowest possible cost.
  • In addition to replacing our inefficient, aging energy systems, we are hoping to complete other major projects that need to be done, as indicated by our Building Condition Assessment (BCA).
  • Keeping disruptions to a minimum is a factor that we are always keeping in mind. There will, of course, be disruption, but we are aiming for maximum benefit for minimum disruption.
