Mark Your Calendars!! Upcoming Social Committee Events
From the Social Committee
Hello Woodsworthians!

As we wrap up the summer 2023, the social committee would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make our last four events possible; the efforts of Nicole Ramsay, Jude Johnston, Tina Lovelace, Zuleyka Mora, Jane Rubel, Maureen Millard, Lalo Nixon-Pasten, Aaron Lenk, Mark Duplacey & the Weekly volunteers, block reps, Raul Cano Arana, John Fraser and Sian Ferguson all made the Street Sale, the Ice-cream cart, the Cookie Cart and the End-of-summer Potluck Barbecue a big success. We’d also like to thank everyone who brought a dish for the potluck — the food was plentiful and delicious! Finally, a big shout out to Jennifer Ramsay, Bob Allan and Shannon Hutchinson for lending their BBQs.

Now we are excited to announce upcoming events for the next few months! Please mark your calendars, we guarantee you that each and every one of them will be so much fun!

Woodsworth Socials News!

Journée Blanche: Woodsworth’s Artisan Market & A Day Time Arts Festival!

Woodsworth Housing Co-op is excited to present its first-ever arts festival, Journée Blanche, on Saturday, October 5th! The event aims to showcase the incredible talent within the co-op, highlighting the creativity of its members through various artworks, including photographs, paintings, poems, books, puppets, films, and more, many of which will be available for art lovers to purchase. As a celebration of co-op life, this festival not only strengthens the community by bringing neighbours together, but also serves as a window for those outside the co-op to see how vibrant and connected co-op living can be. To kick off the tours of the exhibits, a live performance by a trio of musicians will set the tone for a day filled with artistic discovery. Events like Journée Blanche embody the spirit of the co-op housing movement by fostering community connections, mutual support, and shared experiences that strengthen the bonds within the co-op and highlight the vibrancy of co-operative living. Join us and be part of this exciting day—discover the talent, meet your neighbours, and experience the creativity of Woodsworth!

Souper lunch is back!

The Souper Lunch Committee is delighted to announce this revival.

Our first event will be on –

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 25th at 12 NOON IN THE PENTHOUSE

Suggested contribution to the lunch is, as before $2, a toonie, or what you can give.  A donation box will be available in the Penthouse.

All are welcome, but we can comfortably seat 25 people. Bring your own mug for soup.

If you wish to attend, please  fill out the form (in the Weekly)  and place it is the Lunch box in the photocopy room.

Volunteers needed

There is some work involved in putting on these lunches:
the tasks include a little shopping, soup making (we need two volunteers for each lunch but we have people for October 25th), set up in the morning (10:30 am – 12 noon), and cleanup afterward (2-3 pm).
Volunteers for cleanup are asked to bring their own tea towels, and everyone to supply their own mug.  (This cuts down considerably on cleanup.)

If you wish to volunteer for any of the tasks above, it is much appreciated. You may fill out the form below and place it is the Lunch box in the photocopy room, or just call or email Judith de Swaaf.

About souper lunches

We are sure that many of our long time attendees will be very happy with this news  For newcomers to Woodsworth, this popular event goes back as far as 2014.  It was inspired by Marilyn Richards’ mother who attended a similar program in England.

For those newer to our co op it is an opportunity to expand their Woodsworth world.  For long term members, especially those who don’t get out easily or often in winter, it was and hopefully will continue to be a significant enrichment of their lives. And for all who attend, it is a good and pleasant get together.
